FUTURE DECK

USER INTERFACE & VISUAL DESIGN

The FutureDeck was a concept touch based cockpit display and control unit designed in 2008 for Honeywell. It was designed at a time when touch screens were not yet a part of commercial jets cockpits. The idea was to take a fresh look and to bring in revolutionary changes in the way pilots controls the airplane and to reduce their cognitive load even in the most stressful of situations.

Based on extensive research, the final design for the unit was a complete departure from the units seen in the existing jets. The focus on new tools, interactions, user experience and visual design keeping in mind the real life conditions of a commercial jet cockpit meant that the concept proved to be very robust and innovative. The entire process of developing the design was documented through a detailed booklet covering all aspects of the research and design process.
